BOSSE Abraham (1602 - 1676) - "L'Air". c.1648. Original etch - Lot 152
BOSSE Abraham (1602 - 1676) - "L'Air". c.1648. Original etching and burin. Ref: Georges Duplessis, n°1094. Proof on laid paper, inscribed on verso with the collector's mark of Emile Lachenaud (1835-1923), a public works contractor and lover of prints and enamels in Limoges (Lugt 3473). Lachenaud was a collector who had compiled extensive documentation on the art of engraving. Plate from the "Four Elements" suite. This piece is unsigned and avant la lettre. The very large and bold layout suggests that it is one of the last genre scenes produced by Abraham Bosse, probably around 1648 (Bnf). 25 x 32.3 cm. Condition A/B (cut to square line, small wormhole in upper left of subject, traces of ink in lower left of subject).
