CONSTABLE John (Attributed to) 1776 - 1837. Country landscape with river. Oil on canvas. Lower left, monogrammed C.T. H. 20 - L. 36 cm. Wooden frame and gilded stucco with foliate scrolls and flowers in the corners, bearing an old CONSTABLE cartouche. To be compared with Constable's landscapes painted on the motif of Stour Valley and Dedham village, in the Boston Museum (1814) and "Hampstead Heath" (1820) with a very low horizon line and cloudy skies (Cf. Leslie Parris and Ian Fleming Williams, no. 73, pp. 156 - 157 & no. 113; watercolors p. 394 - 395 -. Tate Gallery 1991).
