Issued at fifty numbered copies on hand-made Montval paper, containing two sets of engravings, one of the final state and the other of the proofs drawn after wiping of the copperplates; and five nominative copies out of trade. This one n° 5. Well complete with the two suites of engravings: it should be noted that our engravings are each signed by Alexeïeff, in pencil. In addition, our copy includes a folder (tracing) with a label ("Alexeieff, 31 original drawings") and comprising 31 leaves in Alexeïeff's hand: 1) set of twenty sheets, numbered 1-20, each signed (ink, pencil, ink wash and gouache): different states in the design of the plates pp. 39, 45, 51, 57, 63, 69. 2) seven translucent sheets, each signed (pencil): studies for the same plates. 3) four sheets, each signed (pencil): studies for four plates: portrait of Edgar Poe (and Baudelaire?), and plates pp. 9 and 30, 33. Attached: an engraved portrait of Edgar Poe (Lemercier, Paris). Defects: some spotting on the dust jacket; spine of the slipcase detached; halos in the margins of some drawings.
