DÜRER Albrecht (1471 - 1528) - "The Seven Angels with Trumpets: Opening of the Seventh Seal". Engraved wood. Signed with the artist's monogram in the composition. Ref: Hollstein, n°170. nice proof of the 2nd state (b) of 4, with the text in Latin on the reverse and in the right column (1st line) "ascendetez" (1498). Plate from the 15-piece suite "The Apocalypse" depicts the vision of seven trumpets given to the angels and the consequences of the first four blasts: a deluge of hail and fire on the earth, a third of the living creatures and the sea destroyed, a star falling from the sky eliminating the spring waters and the destruction of a third of the sun, moon and stars. This suite of the Apocalypse, illustrating the text of the Evangelist John, inaugurated Dürer's career as an engraver. Beautiful impression. Provenance: French private collection. 39 x 28,2 cm.
