CARICATURE of NAPOLEON III in the manner of ARCIMBOLDO. Lithograph attributed to Emile DURANDEAU. Fine cream wove paper. Printed by Rouge Frères et Comp. Margins. RARE CURIOSITY. The hair is formed by the imperial eagle. On his forehead, are inscribed the dates of beginning (coup d'état of December 2, 1851) and end of reign (Defeat of Sedan) of Napoleon III. The forehead ends with two bags of coins. The eyebrow is formed by the hat of Cardinal Antonelli. Next to it, the Pope is holding the neck of the cardinal and forms the nose of Napoleon III. On the bust, evocation of the Mexican expedition (1861-1867) with its inscription on the collar. At the end of the collar, representation of Felice Orsini (Italian revolutionary and patriot, author of an attack against Napoleon III). 35 x 26,4 cm. Condition B (some stains, folds and traces of handling).
