RIVIERE Henri (1864 - 1951) - "From the top of the towers of Notre Dame", 1900. Original lithograph, printed in colors. Signed in the plate. Ref: Fields p. 77. Very nice proof on vellum. Plate from the series "Paysages parisiens". Margins. 65 x 90 cm. Condition A (good condition). Henri Rivière, an essential actor of the revival of the color print at the end of the 19th century, was a great admirer of Hokusai and Hiroshige; and their influence was noticeable in all his own print production. It was in Siegfried Bing's store ("L'Art nouveau" in Paris), frequented at the end of the 1890s, in the company of his friend George Auriol, that Henri Rivière had the revelation of the new aesthetic of Japanese graphic art. It was during this period, when Japanese art had a great influence on the decorative arts, that the artist produced, from 1888 to 1902, his famous album "Thirty-six views of the Eiffel Tower", inspired by Hokusai's "Thirty-six views of Fuji-Yama" and the series of "Parisian Landscapes", of which we present here one of the plates.
