"This satirical map of Europe shows the game of alliances in Europe towards the end of 1914, from the point of view of the Entente. Each country is represented allegorically according to its role in the conflict: France as Marianne riding a rooster, thrusting a dagger into the forehead of a bull representing Germany, pushed from behind by Tsar Nicholas II of Russia; Great Britain as the captain of a great warship; Austria-Hungary as a crown fallen to the ground in the middle of a cemetery, announcing the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire; Poland as a woman begging the Tsar to protect her" (BNF). 50 x 65 cm.
