SARLIUS Salomon-Léon, known as Léonard Sarlius... - Lot 65 - Eric Caudron
SARLIUS Salomon-Léon, known as Léonard Sarlius (1874 - 1949) - [Mïse et les tables de la loi]. Large drawing with pencils and white gouache on paper. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner. 58 x 44 cm. Condition B (some slight traces of folds, corners damaged). Of Dutch origin and son of an antique dealer, Sarluis was awakened to art at an early age. He started drawing at the age of thirteen. During these years of apprenticeship, Sarluis took the habit of using the name "Leonardo" in homage to the famous painter of the Italian Renaissance Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo Sarlius devoted himself to a "Mysticism of the Bible" in 360 paintings that he tried in vain to exhibit in Paris and that he finally presented in London in 1928.
