DA CAMARA Leal Panaji (Panaji (India) 1876 Rinchoa (Portugal) 1948) - Reunion of 3 PREPARATORY DRAWINGS FOR "LES SOUVERAINS" (special issue for "L'Assiette au beurre") by Leal da Camara accompanied by 13 illustrations in the form of a booklet in-folio of which the cover of the copy n°19 of August 8, 1901 (Portrait of GUILLAUME II on the cover). The 3 original PREPARATORY DRAWINGS which were used to illustrate this magazine: "Oscar II, king of Sweden and Norway", "Charles I, king of Romania" & "Alexander I, king of Serbia". Drawings in black stone, black ink and watercolor, on wove paper. The three drawings are signed with initials in black ink by the artist. RARE AND BEAUTIFUL SET. 32 x 24 cm approximately the set. Condition A/B (traces of old mounting on the back for the drawings and some short tears for the cover). Tomás Júlio Leal da Câmara, known as Camara, is a Portuguese painter and caricaturist who was famous in the Paris of the Belle Époque. After publishing numerous caricatures against the monarchy and the aristocracy, he was exiled to Madrid. From 1900 to 1910, Leal da Câmara came to live in Paris where he actively participated in the anarchist movement and published drawings and caricatures in "L'Assiette au beurre", running a number of special issues.
