CANADA - QUEBEC - "Vue du Palais Episcopal et de ses ruines, ainsi qu'elles paraissent en descendant à la basse-ville". 1761. Etching and burin by Ignace FOUGERON (active 1750-1782), after Richard SHORT. Proof on laid paper. Fine copper margins. Richard Short's view of the Episcopal palace in Quebec City in 1759, following the siege of the city by the British army. While the proportions and details of the building are quite accurate, the layout and location of the côte de la Montagne are incorrect. This defect is probably attributable to the London engraver who published Short's drawing in 1761. 32 x 51.2 cm. Condition B/C (cut inside the copperplate mark, shelf missing, traces of old mounting on verso, foxing and a few stains, an ancinenally consolidated tear on left).
