15th century GERMAN INCUNABLE - "The Resurrection of Lazarus". c.1474. Woodcut by an anonymous person, in antique coloring. "Typographed text on verso. Proof on laid paper. Small margins. This woodcut would have been engraved in Cologne before 1474, then reprinted in Basel in 1476. This proof comes from the work ""Le Mirouer de la rédemption de l'humain lignage"" published in Lyon in 1478 by Martin Huss (c.1445-c.1482, printer of French incunabula). The work was reprinted in 1479, 1482, 1483 and 1484, in the same workshop, by his brother or cousin, Mathias Huss. Between these five editions, only the composition of the page (the position of the engravings in relation to the text) differs slightly. Mirouer de la rédemption de l'humain lignage", translated from Latin into French by Julien Macho, is one of the first books printed and illustrated in French. The woodcut plates and type came from Basel. Martin Huss received them from the printer Bernard Richel, who had published a German edition of the same work ("Spiegel Menschlicher Behältnisse") in 1476. 13.4 x 9.2 cm.
