Large circular tray decorated with a Shahnameh scene. Iran, in the Qajar taste, probably Isfahan or Kashan, First half of the 20th century. Brass tray with chased and polychrome decoration, depicting Rostam, the hero of Ferdowsi's Shahnameh, riding his horse Rakhsh and bringing Prince Bizhan behind him after rescuing him from the well where he had been imprisoned by Afrasiab. The scene is set against a background of colored foliage and surrounded by eighteen medallions containing busts of kings and heroes from ancient Iran and Persia. Wear and tear and restorations.
