[GILLOT DE SAINCTONGE (Louise), 1650-1718, woman of letters] Histoire secrète de dom Antoine, roi de Portugal. Paris, Jean Guignard, 1696; in 12, brown calf, ornate ribbed spine, red morocco title-piece. Contemporary binding. First edition. This work, written by a woman of letters with a passion for opera and the writing of opera librettos, was supposedly based on the Memoirs of don Gomès Vasconcellos de Figueredo. On the verso of the title is the armorial cold seal of Jacques-Florent de Mory, born in 1742, canon of the cathedral church of Soissons. A fine copy of a rare edition.
