Based on a composition by Palma the Younger dated 1599 and housed in the Church of the Friars Minor in Potenza Picena. The name of the copyist Ad La Mothe on the reverse of the canvas may refer to a relative of the painter Louis - Victor de La Mothe (? - 1714) active at the end of the reign of Louis XIV (Cf. Guillaume Janneau, La Peinture française au XVIIe siècle, .341 - Genève 1965).
