CATULLE: Traduction en prose de Catulle, Tibulle et Gallus par l'Auteur des Soirées Helvétiennes et des Tableaux. Amsterdam et Paris, Delalain, 1771; 2 vols in 8°; marbled tawny calf, ornate ribbed spines, lemon morocco title and giblets, triple gilt fillet and central gilt medallion on covers, gilt edges, contemporary binding.
The Marquis de Pezay, author of the Soirées Helvétiennes, had a talented Latinist named David as his secretary. He found it simpler to offer himself authorship of this translation, even though it is by David (upper hinges split over 5 cm).
