Lot no. 25
CASCELLA Basilio (1860 - 1950) - (La MEDUSE QUI HURLE) - "Divina Commedia di DANTE ALIGHIERI, interpreta da Basilio CASCELLA e Vincenzo BUCCI, MCMIV". (Front cover of the "Divine Comedy"). 1904. Enhanced color lithograph on blue-gray wove paper. Margins. Anna Maria Damigella reports that the project to illustrate the "Divine Comedy" began in 1900. Even if the project was not completed, the plates created give an idea of the spirit that animated them in this ambitious reinterpretation of the text, notably with this spectacular plate of the Medusa (Bibliography: Anna Maria Damigella, Basilio Cascella et " l'illustration des Abruzzes " du réalisme au symbolisme , Pescara 1991). 49.5 x 38.3 cm. Condition B (a few consolidated tears on the edges sometimes reaching the subject, a few marginal stains, traces of glue on the edges on the verso, a tiny hole filled under "Divina" and slight traces of handling).
