Bust portrait of a young woman. Circa 1805. This portrait is identified as that of Marie Bilibine (Maria Bilibina), née Maria Ivanovna Koussova (Kousova, Kusova) (1784-1848). Oil on canvas (88.5 x 72.5 cm). Restorations. The model is identified by a Russian inscription on the back. On the left, on the armchair, there is an inscription "L.E. Vigée Le Brun 18..."; it is under this attribution to Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun that this portrait is known to this day. However, for stylistic reasons, it is possible to attribute this portrait to Alexandre Molinari (1772-1831), portraitist of the Italian, Polish and Russian aristocracy. Maria Ivanovna Bilibina, née Koussova (1784 - 1848), was the daughter of Ivan Vassilievitch Koussoff (1750-1819), a member of the Council of State Credit Institutions and one of the founders of the Russian-American Society. In 1801, she married Yakov Ivanovitch Bilibine (1779 - 1854), mayor of Kaluga. She was the grandmother of the famous artist Ivan Yakovlevitch Bilibine (1876 - 1942). Provenance: Russian collection until mid-20th century. Sale in Helsinski in 1956. French private collections.
