ANONYMOUS EARLY 20th century, Disturbed Object - Peeled Mountain eruption 1902, mixed media and melted material in a wooden box, unsigned, titled on a label, 21x8x6 cm (box). Charles Ratton, an antique dealer and expert in primitive arts, exhibited in 1936 on the suggestion of André Breton a surrealist accumulation of objects, some of which were melted down following the eruption of the Montagne Pelée in Martinique in 1902. Our "objet perturbé" probably participated in this 1936 exhibition.
