ORIGINAL DRAWING WITH PENCIL AND GOUACHE. Vellum paper. Suzanne Tourte moved to Paris in 1924, where she evolved in the artistic and literary world. André Maurois, Hervé Bazin, Paul Guth, Armand Lanoux, Louise de Vilmorin, Robert Mallet, Paul Fort cultivated her friendship and sang her praises. At the beginning of the twentieth century, when the fundamental concepts of art were called into question, Suzanne Tourte witnessed an unrestrained competition between artists in search of new ways of expression: the audacity of Fauvism, the affirmation of Cubism, the birth of Abstraction, the aggressiveness of Expressionism and so many others, and then the "return to order" at the outbreak of World War II. At the heart of this turmoil, Suzanne Tourte has created her own universe. Her early works are frankly figurative. She then evolved into a period known as "with scrolls" where the shape of his characters is surrounded by a line. But it is towards the 1950s that, her painting reaching the full maturity of her art, she gave the best of herself. This very personal work, the most constructed, corresponds to the period known as geometrical. A period called "serene" followed. 65 x 50 cm.
