RARE PANORAMIC PLAN OF PARIS, circa 1617, by Pieter van den KEERE (1571 1646). RARE & EXCEPTIONAL 4 plate plan in elevation, engraved with etching and burin. Born in Ghent in Holland in 1571, Pieter van den Keere, also named in the Latin fashion Petrus Kaerius, was related to Jodocus Hondius, and after having been his disciple, became like him a cartographer in London (because of religious persecutions). In 1627 he published an "Atlas Minor", whose 63 maps cover all the continents according to the knowledge of the time. This map derives directly from Merian's map, but it is more like a cavalier view than an elevation map. It belongs to an important series of city plans, all in four plates, of which about thirty are currently known. This is the largest and most spectacular plan of Paris produced at that time. 41 x 53 cm each plate. 41 x 212 cm approximately the whole. Condition B/C (Many restorations filled in).
