LEQUIN (Active in the 18th century). - Almanac for 30 years dedicated to the Queen". 1775. Etching and burin engraving. Ref : De Vinck n°214. Rare proof on strong laid paper, cut inside the plate cut. This Almanac decorated with the profile portraits of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI is particularly original since it was equipped with a circular mechanism at the back allowing, as for a slide rule, to quickly obtain the various information relative to a given date. After the acceleration of printing in the 19th century, the Almanacs were the most printed and read works with the Bible, it was not rare that they were equipped with rebus to be read by an illiterate public. This one however, published in Paris in 1875, is a sophisticated object by its form and intended for a literate and bourgeois public since it cost three books (old regime) equivalent to 45 euros today. Its publication was announced as follows in the Gazette de France of October 20, 1775: "Almanach pour trente ans, dédié à la Reine, par le sieur Lequin, formant une estampe enrichie des portraits du Roi et de la Reine et de divers ornements. At the author's house, rue et hôtel de Condé. Price 3 Livres, and under glass and borders 8 Livres." A copy is visible at the BNF. RARE. 44,5 x 35,3 cm. Condition B (oxidized and dusty paper, foxing under the title)
