- [KEEPSAKES] - Paris-London. French Keepsake. Unpublished news illustrated with twenty-six vignettes engraved in London by the best artists. I. 1837. - II. 1838 [With:] Paris Illustrations. Paris, Delloye, Desmé et Cie [and :] Pourrat frères, 1837-1838, 3 vols. in 8°, half cherry calf, smooth spines decorated with gilt fillets, gilt fillet and garlands, gilt heads. Bound in contemporary style (corners damaged). This series offers, in a uniform binding, a collection of several keepsakes: the first two years of Paris-London, a quasi-periodical which appeared from 1837 to 1842; and the single volume of Paris-illustrations, with the date of 1838 (it is also presented with those of 1839, 1842 or 1843, without change of the text). These albums, the fruit of a "French-English" collaboration very much in the spirit of the July Monarchy, should not be neglected either for the iconography, taken from English engravings generally diverted from their first use, or for the text, in consideration of the literary celebrities who wrote the short stories, roughly the same as the contributors to the Annales Romantiques, among whom we find the names of Chateaubriand, Victor Hugo, Jules Janin, Sainte-Beuve, Vigny, Delavigne, etc. Cf. respectively Gausseron, 49 and Viciare IV, 690-693 (for the whole series of Paris-Londres); Escoffier, 1263 (Paris-Londres of 1837); Gausseron, 48 and Vicaire IV, 689-90, noting only 23 plates (for Paris-illustrations)
