- NAUBERT (Christiane Benedikte Eugenie). Herman d'Unna, ou Aventures arrivées au commencement du quinzième siècle, dans le temps où le tribunal secret avoit sa plus grande influence; translated from the German by Jean-Nicolas-Etienne de Bock. Genève, Barde, Manget et Cie, 1792, 3 volumes in-16, half tan basane with corners, smooth spines decorated with gilt fillets, brick title pieces, yellow edges. Binding of the period (corners damaged). Second edition of the French translation of Hermann von Unna, eine geschichte aus den Zeiten der Vehmgerichte (1789), the first having appeared in 1791 at the address of Metz. The work is still too often put under the name of the translator, but it was composed by the German novelist Christine Benedikte Hebenstreit-Naubert (1752-1819), whose influence on the novelistic writing of Walter Scott, who knew her, was considerable, though largely underestimated. A good copy.
