- MERCIER (Louis-Sébastien). Mon bonnet de nuit. Neuchâtel [then :] Lausanne, Imprimerie de la Société typographique [then :] Jean-Pierre Heubach, 1784-1785, 4 volumes in 2 vols. in 8°, pebbled fawn calf, smooth spine decorated, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, inner scroll. Bound in contemporary style (minor wear to the headpieces, spine a little faded).

First edition, with difference of date and address for the last two volumes. It is quite complete of the last two volumes, not always joined to the first ones, and in fact ignored by several bibliographers. The work is a sequel to Tableau de Paris; it is presented in the form of thematic articles, which sometimes constitute real small treatises, but without any organic link between them. Like the Tableau, it is a text that realizes "the perfection of disorder, a jumble of materials that makes one dizzy" (Béclard). Cioranescu, XVIII, 44452. INED, 3137 (these two bibliographies ignore the continuation of 1785). - Bonnet, Louis-Sébastien Mercier, p. 478. Copy of E. Berthouin, with his ex libris.
