- COURTILZ DE SANDRAS (Gatien de). Interview of M. Colbert, minister and secretary of state, with Bouin, famous partisan, on several curious affairs; among others on the sharing of the succession of Spain, made by the King of England, & by the Dutch. Cologne, Pierre Marteau, 1701, 3 parts in one vol. in 12, [2] ff. n. ch. (title, notice to the reader), 177 pp, relay title, [179] pp. miscalculated 177 (there are two differentff. coded 55-56), [2] ff. n. ch. (one blank, relay title), 182 pp. in brown calf, spine ribbed with partitions and flowers, spotted edges (contemporary binding). A good copy.

First edition, complete of its three parts: this fictitious interview was republished in 1708, and its content has little to do with the subjects announced in the title (Colbert's administration or War of the Spanish Succession), but offers on the other hand an overview of the general situation of France at the end of Louis XIV's reign, with, as it should be with Courtilz, many unverifiable anecdotes. SHF, Bourgeois & André, 3056 (reproduces the same collation errors as the BnF catalogue). Cioranescu, XVII, 22 329.
