CHAMPION (Symphorien)

De Monarchia / Gallorum Campi aurei: ac / triplici imperio, videlicet Romano, / Gallico, Germanico : una cum gestis heroum ac / omnium Imperatorum. / Authore Symphoriano Campegio aurato equite

Lyon, Melchior et Gaspard Trechsel, 1537, in-4, [21] ff. n. ch., a blank leaf, with a large bookseller's vignette in the title and some arms in the text, soft ivory vellum, edges speckled with red (17th century binding). A short trimmed copy in the lower margin, so the signatures have usually disappeared.

Rare first edition of one of the last works of Symphorien Champier, complete with its three parts, which have often been separated (despite what Baudrier says).

His works have always been much sought after, and none of them are linked to the other two parts of this composite collection, which are often separated, with an inversion (the third part precedes the second) :

I. Galliae Celti- / cae, ac antiquitatis / Lugdunensis civitatis, quae / caput est Celtarum, campus. Lyon, Melchior et Gaspard Trechsel, 1537, [18] ff. n. ch., with the arms of Lyon as title. - II. De Monarchia / ac triplici imperio, videli- / cet, Romano, Gallico, and Germa- / nico campus, imperatorum / gesta continens. Lyon, Melchior and Gaspard Trechsel, 1537, [30] ff. n. ch., with the arms of France in title
