La grande-duchesse Marie Feodorovna, épouse du grand-duc héritier Paul Petrovitch, a sculpté dans la pierre l'effigie de l'impératrice, pour la lui offrir à l'occasion de son anniversaire. Enthousiasmée par le talent de sa belle-fille, Catherine II ordonna de reproduire cette effigie.
