STOSCH (Philippe de) - PICART (Bernard): Engraved Antique Stones. Gemmae Antiquae Caelatae, on which the engravers have put their names. Drawn and Engraved in Copper on the Originals or according to the Imprints, by Bernard Picart. Taken from the main Cabinets of Europe, explained by Mr. Philippe de Stosch, Councillor of H.M. the King of Poland, Elector of Saxony, dedicated to His M. Imp. and Cath. Charles VI. Amsterdam, Bernard Picart, 1724; in folio, red morocco, ornate ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet on the plates, arms struck in the centre of the plates, gilt edges. Bound in contemporary style. First edition of one of the most beautiful works devoted to this subject, object of magnificent collections. The book includes 70 plates engraved out of text. A copy with the coat of arms of Guillaume Mazade de Saint-Brisson, from an old Languedoc family, who was treasurer general of the States of the province of Languedoc in 1754, then secretary to the King in 1757; of the bibl. of John Samuel Hayward, 1778-1822, a British artist, with his ex libris. (rubbed hinges, blunt corners).
