GAILLARD Ferdinand (1834-1887). Leo XIII. Around 1880. Interesting collection of 18 plates of the same subject in different states: - Nine proofs of the 3rd state out of 6, bearing the mention "Gaillard sc. - Two proofs of the 4th state out of 6, with the address of the author and the printer, Chardon aîné. - One state proof, before the hair work, simply bearing the engraved words "XXIIIIIII" (Béraldi not described). - Four proofs of the 6th state, after further work in the hair (two bearing the mention "F. Gaillard", the others bearing the mention "XXXXXXXXXXXXX"). - Two proofs from the print run of the Gazette des Beaux-Arts. Proofs on china applied on vellum. Average sheet size (except for the smaller Gazette proofs): 90 x 60 cm. Large margins. Condition B (marginal soiling and freckles). References: Béraldi n°39; I.F.F. n°67. Set of 18 plates.
