LE PAUTRE (Jean) Book of panelling panels, invented and engraved by J. Le Pautre Paris, Est. Gantrel, n.d., (ca. 1660), small oblong in-4 (20 x 29 cm), [7] ff. n.d., with engraved title and 5 decorative plates, fawn calf, spine ribbed, spine ribbed, red title piece, edges speckled with red (contemporary binding). Bits and rubbed caps. Very rare, like the very numerous suites of sets that Jean Le Pautre (1618-1682) produced in abundance during his career, to the point of totalling nearly 1500 prints. They generally took the form of notebooks of 6 to 12 plates, no more, dealt with a number of themes and objects, and served as inspiration for the creation of interior or exterior decorations. Our title is linked with 15 other suites, all by Le Pautre except for the second one. A total of 121 boards.
