Lyon, Guillaume Barbier, 1647, in-4, 4 ff., then pp. 5-236, [9] ff. n. ch. de tables et de privilège, with a portrait engraved out of text, granite brown calf, spine ribbed, cloisonné and floral, red title piece, speckled edges (contemporary binding). Restorations at corners, caps and hinges. The O's from OCTO have been scraped off and colored.
First edition of this landmark work in which Pierre Gassendi sought to explain and dispel the bad reputation enjoyed by the philosopher Epicure.
