DUPLESSI-BERTAUX (Jean) Album for youth,... - Lot 101 - Eric Caudron
DUPLESSI-BERTAUX (Jean) Album for youth, amateurs and artists, composed of twenty-five diverse subjects: arts and crafts, horses, hunting, military scenes, views and landscapes decorated with factories and animals, etc. Drawn and etched by the late J. Duplessi-Bertaux, preceded by the author's portrait and a historical note on the grandmasters, Callot, La Belle and Sébastien Leclerc. Presented to H.S.A. Royale Monseigneur le Duc de Bordeaux, by Joubert, publisher Paris, Joubert, 1823, in-8 oblong 19 x 25 cm, [2]-17 pp. of text, 26 etchings on applied China, including a portrait of Duplessi, old-red morocco, smooth spine decorated with fillets and cold garlands, large cold-framing of fillets, garlands, and geometrical sowing on the plates, cold-stamped arms in the centre, gold edges, cold garland on the counter plates, endpapers lined with dominating mauve paper (period binding). Rare posthumous album (Duplessi-Bertaux had died in 1818) bringing together a wide variety of subjects, only a few of which could have been related to the Bourbons (such as the view of Waterloo, or the Allies' entry into Paris, etc.). The young Duke of Bordeaux was only three years old at the time anyway... Copy of the coat of arms of Louis-Henri-Joseph de Bourbon-Condé (1756-1830)
