BALUZE (Etienne) Historiae Tutelensis libri... - Lot 32 - Eric Caudron
BALUZE (Etienne) Historiae Tutelensis libri tres Paris, Imprimerie Royale, by Claude Rigaud, 1717, in-4, [5] ff. n. ch. (title, dedication to Jean Baluze, preface), 306 pp., then col. 307-922, index, with 3 folding plates, including a plan of the cathedral of Tulle, red morocco, spine with nerves cloisonné and fleurné, triple gilt fillet on the plates, coat of arms in the centre, double gilt fillet on the cups, gilt edges, inside lace (contemporary binding). Some light wetness and pitting, but nice copy. First edition of the last work published during the lifetime of the great scholar Etienne Baluze (1630-1718): a native of Tulle, he sought to paint a historical picture of his town from its foundation as a monastic establishment until the early 18th century. Precious copy with the great coat of arms of Henri-François d'Aguesseau (1668-1751)
